Daughter: (breaks down days after witnessing his father with another woman) How can dad do this to us? You and I were so happy. Was he not?
Mother: It’s not like that.
Daughter: Then, what is it?
Mother: You’ll understand when you grow up.
Daughter: I don’t want to. I’m dumbfounded every time I think about it. Is this why you couldn’t speak? (Her mother became temporarily mute after finding out her perfect husband was having an affair)
After calming down…
Daughter: I just suddenly got emotional
Mother: This is the very first hardship you must face. You’ll encounter more unbelievable events in your life until you die. It’s inevitable. I said there are those who break down and those who overcome them. If you think about it, it may not be that big of a deal. But for the weak, their entire world may be falling apart. Is your world falling apart?
Daughter: No. All I need is you. And you have me.
Mother: Thank you. Every time I look at you, I’m glad I married your dad. Thanks to him I have you by my side. You win some, you lose some. It goes both ways. That’s the way life works.
Daughter: Don’t worry.
Mother: Your dad was a great dad who made one mistake. Should we resent, hurt, and punish him for that one mistake? Only small-minded people believe in “An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.” Those with a big heart just accept things for what they are. In that sense, I don’t have that big of a heart. I admit it.
Daughter: Then, how big is it?
Mother: It’s smaller than a small dish.
Daughter: Your heart is as big as a washbowl. Is it true that that she (the mistress) calls you by your first name? (calling someone by their first name without honorifics anymore means you are close)
Mother: Yes, I didn’t tell her to.
Daughter: But you didn’t tell her off?
Mother: Well, a part of me felt bad for her.
Mother: Falling in love isn’t something you can’t control. You can’t help it.
Daughter: Still, it was wrong of her. That’s how it is depicted in the movies.
Mother: It’s fine as long as we don’t do that. Always stay true to yourself. We can never be sure of what’ll happen in the future. Doing so will only prove our arrogance. Just remember this.
